Revised Preferred Option
In the revised Preferred Option, part of Tilbury Marshes will be used
for parkland and part for Port of Tilbury expansion. This will create
more jobs in the area and will ensure that the Port remains an important
strategic economic hub within Thurrock, as outlined within the Spatial
Plan. The proposals include:
- A new Regional Park with high quality landscaping;
- An important employment area in a parkland setting;
- Port related development, mainly storage and warehousing;
- Lorry parking;
- Open space and parkland between Tilbury and the expansion
land, creating an attractive urban edge;
- Areas of wildlife interest;
- Sustainable urban drainage systems and ecological features;
- A new Green Belt boundary; and
- Mature landscape planting along Dock Road.
Providing Port expansion land to the north of Tilbury will also
allow the development of exciting plans for Tilbury Riverfront.
By relocating some of the land currently in port use, Tilbury can be
linked with its riverside. 800 new homes, shops, open space and improved
connections to Tilbury Fort can be created. This proposal is important
in creating a better future for Tilbury, and received a great amount
of support in the previous consultations.
