Issues and Options

The consultation period for the Issues and Options stage of the Master Plan ended on 17 March 2008.

We received many useful comments during the previous consultation event, some of the issues raised included:

  • An increase in community facilities and leisure facilities is required within the area;
  • That there are concerns over anti-social behaviour and lack of pride in the area;
  • There are also concerns about pressure on existing transport and infrastructure if new development is built;
  • A balanced community is sought, with mixed house types and tenures;
  • That there is support for additional local jobs within South East Thurrock; and
  • Development of high quality is needed within the area.

All comments received as part of the Issues and Options consultation have been considered in developing the Master Plan Preferred Option.

Eco Towns and Quarters

Last year, the Government launched an Eco Town initiative, which invited expressions of interest to provide areas of zero carbon technologies with good public transport, exemplary design, community facilities and services supporting mixed communities and affordable housing.

The Government announced their shortlist of Eco Towns in April and they did not include any sites within Thurrock in their shortlist.
